What is the hardest and most durable plastic?

1. Polyimide (PAI)
Polyimide, especially some high-performance models, stands out for its excellent physical and chemical properties. This material has extremely high hardness and wear resistance, making it one of the hardest plastics. Its hardness not only endows it with excellent durability, but also enables it to maintain good performance in high temperature and corrosive environments.
High temperature resistance: PAI materials can maintain their structural integrity and strength under conditions up to 260 ℃, which is crucial for plastic components that need to withstand high temperature environments.
Wear resistance: This material also has excellent wear resistance and can withstand a large amount of friction and loss, thereby extending the service life of the product.
2. Engineering plastics
Engineering plastics are a new type of high-strength mold material with high strength, high temperature resistance, and excellent chemical resistance. Several representative materials in this type of plastic, such as nylon (PA), polyimide (PI, different from the previously mentioned PAI), aramid (PPS), etc., have shown excellent performance in manufacturing high-quality plastic molds.
High strength: The high-strength properties of engineering plastics enable them to withstand significant physical stresses and are less prone to deformation or fracture.
Chemical resistance: This type of material has strong resistance to various chemical substances and is suitable for corrosive environments.
3. Other high-performance plastics
In addition to the aforementioned polyimides and engineering plastics, there are also several other high-performance plastics worth mentioning, such as PEEK (polyether ether ketone) and PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene). These materials also exhibit extremely high hardness and durability in specific application scenarios.
4. Application of plastic molds
In the field of plastic molds, hard and durable plastic materials are crucial. The hardness and durability of molds directly affect the quality and production efficiency of products. For example, in the injection molding process, the mold needs to withstand high pressure and high temperature, which requires the mold material to have sufficient hardness and heat resistance.
