1. Material characteristics
Soft molds are usually made of rubber or elastic materials, such as silicone or polyurethane. These materials have high flexibility and ductility, and can adapt to complex shapes and curves. In contrast, hard molds are usually made of metal materials such as steel, aluminum alloys, etc. These materials have high hardness, good wear resistance, and durability.
2. Scope of application
Soft molds are mainly used to make soft or complex structured plastic products, such as rubber products, silicone products, plastic parts, etc. Due to its softness, the soft mold has a closer contact between the mold surface and the plastic material, which can produce a more refined surface effect and contour. Hard molds are more suitable for making hard plastic products, such as ABS, PC. Hard molds, due to their high material hardness, can better withstand high pressure and temperature, making them suitable for mass production.
3. Cost and manufacturing cycle
Soft molds are usually relatively inexpensive and have a short manufacturing cycle. Due to the lower material cost and relatively simple processing technology of soft molds, their manufacturing cost and cycle are lower. In addition, the design and modification of soft molds are more flexible and can be adjusted in a short period of time. In contrast, the manufacturing cost of hard molds is higher and the processing cycle is longer. Due to the fact that the manufacturing material of hard molds is metal and the processing technology is complex, it requires longer time and higher costs to manufacture and adjust.
4. Service life and maintenance
Hard molds typically have a longer service life and lower maintenance costs. Due to the higher hardness and wear resistance of hard mold materials, they can withstand longer periods of high pressure and high temperature without being easily damaged. Although soft molds have good flexibility, their service life is relatively short due to the characteristics of the material, and they require regular maintenance and replacement.
