What is injection molded parts?

1, Definition of injection molded parts
Injection molded parts, as the name suggests, are plastic components manufactured through injection molding processes. Injection molding is a method of injecting molten plastic material into a mold, cooling and solidifying it to obtain the desired shape and size of the product. Injection molded parts are widely used in various fields such as automobiles, electronics, home appliances, healthcare, toys, etc. due to their high molding accuracy, fast production efficiency, high material utilization rate, and low cost.
2, Production Principles and Processes
The production of injection molded parts mainly relies on three major elements: injection molding machines, molds, and plastic materials. The injection molding machine melts plastic particles into a fluid through a heating system, and then injects the melted plastic into the mold cavity under high pressure. Mold is the key to the molding of injection molded parts, and its design needs to accurately match the shape and size of the product to ensure the quality of the injection molded parts. After injection molding is completed, the molten plastic cools and solidifies inside the mold, and then the injection molded part is removed from the mold through an ejector mechanism. The entire production process includes plastic melting, injection molding filling, pressure holding cooling, demolding and other steps, with high automation and fast production efficiency.
3, Material selection
The material selection of injection molded parts is crucial, as it directly affects the performance, cost, and market competitiveness of the product. Common injection molding materials include two categories: thermoplastic and thermosetting plastics. Thermoplastic materials such as polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), polystyrene (PS), ABS resin, etc. have become the main materials for injection molded parts due to their ability to be repeatedly heated, melted, and molded. Although thermosetting plastics are less commonly used in injection molding, they also have important applications in certain specific fields such as automotive components and electronic appliances. In addition, with the increasing awareness of environmental protection, environmentally friendly materials such as biodegradable plastics are gradually receiving attention.
4, Design points
The design of injection molded parts needs to comprehensively consider factors such as product functional requirements, appearance requirements, cost-effectiveness, and processing performance. The design points include reasonable wall thickness design, avoiding sharp corners and edges, optimizing the draft angle, and arranging the gate position reasonably. The wall thickness design should ensure that the product has sufficient strength and stiffness, while avoiding material waste and uneven shrinkage. Sharp corners and edges can easily lead to stress concentration and cracking, so rounded transitions should be avoided or used as much as possible. The design of the draft angle should ensure that the injection molded parts can be smoothly removed from the mold, avoiding pulling or deformation. The selection of gate position should be conducive to the uniform filling and exhaust of molten plastic, reducing the occurrence of defects.
5, Application Fields
The application fields of injection molded parts are extremely wide, covering almost all aspects of modern industry and daily life. In the automotive industry, injection molded parts such as bumpers, instrument panels, door interior panels, etc. not only reduce the weight of the vehicle body, but also improve the fuel economy and safety of the car. In the field of electronic appliances, injection molded parts serve as components such as casings, connectors, switches, etc., protecting internal circuits while providing a beautiful appearance and comfortable touch. In addition, injection molded parts are widely used in various fields such as home appliances, healthcare, toys, packaging, etc., becoming an indispensable part of modern life.
