Mirror polishing process for injection molding of electronic product casings

1, Principle of mirror polishing process
Mirror polishing is a process of grinding and polishing the surface of materials to achieve a high degree of smoothness. During the polishing process, the abrasive reacts chemically with the processed surface to remove impurities such as oxide and rust layers. At the same time, the mechanical action of the abrasive gradually smoothes the surface until a highly smooth mirror effect is achieved. For injection molded parts of electronic product casings, mirror polishing can not only enhance the appearance and texture of the product, but also enhance its wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and fingerprint resistance.
2, Mirror polishing process flow
The mirror polishing process for injection molded parts of electronic product casings usually includes the following steps:
Pre treatment: Before polishing, injection molded parts need to be pre treated, including cleaning, deburring, and roughening. Cleaning can remove impurities such as oil stains and dust from the surface of injection molded parts; Deburring can eliminate the corners and protrusions generated during the injection molding process; Coarsening treatment increases surface roughness and improves polishing efficiency through methods such as sandblasting, sandpaper polishing, or chemical corrosion.
Rough polishing: Rough polishing is the first step of mirror polishing, mainly aimed at removing obvious defects on the surface of injection molded parts, such as protrusions, depressions, flow marks, etc. At this stage, coarse abrasives and high pressure are usually used for grinding to quickly remove surface irregularities. After rough polishing, the surface of the injection molded part should be basically flat and free of obvious defects.
Mid polishing: Mid polishing is performed after rough polishing to further smooth the surface of the injection molded part and reduce surface roughness. At this stage, medium grit abrasives are used with moderate pressure to ensure surface quality without excessive wear on the workpiece. After intermediate polishing, the surface of the injection molded parts should present a relatively uniform and delicate texture.
Precision polishing: Precision polishing is the final and most crucial step in mirror polishing. In this stage, fine-grained abrasives and gentle pressure are used for polishing to remove fine surface defects and make the surface smooth like a mirror. During the polishing process, it is necessary to strictly control parameters such as polishing time and polishing solution concentration to ensure consistency and stability of the polishing effect.
3, Key points of mirror polishing technology
Choosing the appropriate abrasive: The selection of abrasive is crucial for the mirror polishing effect. Abrasives of different particle sizes are suitable for different polishing stages. Coarse abrasives are selected for rough polishing, while fine-grained abrasives are selected for medium and fine polishing. At the same time, the type of abrasive should also be selected according to the material and polishing requirements of the injection molded parts.
Control polishing pressure and time: Polishing pressure and time are important factors that affect the polishing effect. Excessive polishing pressure or prolonged time can lead to excessive surface wear or scratches. Therefore, it is necessary to strictly control the polishing pressure and time during the polishing process to ensure the consistency and stability of the polishing effect.
Use appropriate polishing solution: Polishing solution plays a role in lubricating, cooling, and accelerating polishing during mirror polishing. Choosing the appropriate polishing solution can improve polishing efficiency and quality. Meanwhile, the concentration and pH value of the polishing solution also need to be adjusted according to the polishing requirements.
Pay attention to cleanliness during the polishing process: A large amount of abrasives and impurities will be generated during the polishing process. If these impurities are not removed in time, they will affect the polishing effect. Therefore, it is necessary to regularly clean the polishing equipment and workpiece surface during the polishing process to ensure the smooth progress of the polishing process.
